About Forktales
One recipe box for the recipes you cook, shared with the friends you eat with.
Why it exists
A printed waffle recipe has sat folded in a kitchen drawer for twenty years. A ramen recipe is a link a friend sent. Some dishes you make from memory. You have eaten a friend’s tofu rice bowl only at her table.
Forktales puts them in one box. Scan the card, paste the link or type in what you know by heart. Cook from it one step at a time and find it again by name, ingredient or tag.
When the people you eat with are on Forktales too, you see what they cook and can ask for the recipe.
What it is
Forktales is a recipe box that runs in the browser on your phone or your computer. You can also post a photo of a plate, with a few words if you like. You made it, a friend made it or you bought it. Your friends see it. If they want to know how, they ask for the recipe with one tap.
What it is not
- No public feed. Nothing on Forktales is visible to anyone who is not signed in.
- No algorithm. You see your friends’ posts, newest first. Nothing is ranked or promoted.
- No ads. Nobody pays to appear in your feed.
- No strangers. Posts and recipes are for friends you have accepted, and either of you can end that any time.
Free at its core
The core of Forktales will always be free. Writing and saving recipes, cook mode, posting and asking cost nothing.
The AI features are different, because each one costs us money to run. Scanning a recipe card, reading a link with AI and working out nutrition spend credits. Every member gets some to start, and more for bringing friends in. Pricing has the details.
Who makes it
Forktales is made by a small team in British Columbia, Canada. Between us we have spent a long time in the food and beverage industry, feeding people for a living. We built Forktales for the other meals: the ones we cook at home for friends and the ones they cook for us.
